Ty'quan Rosario, 16 of York, has been arrested for the fatal stabbing of 14-year-old Michael Keys III, the York City Police Department announced on Thursday. His arrest was made with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Taskforce and the York County Sheriff's office at his home on Dec. 7.
"Rosario is charged as an adult with Criminal Homicide in connection with yesterday's stabbing death," the police stated in the release.
Michael Keys III, of the 800 block of Linden Avenue, York, was pronounced dead at WellSpan York Hospital at 12:32 p.m. on Dec. 6, York County Coroner Pam Gay detailed in a release on Thursday morning. His cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy scheduled at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown at 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8.
A 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl were also injured during the fight in the park, York City police explained. Those teens' statuses and conditions are unknown, as is the role they played in the fight and fatal stabbing.
Keys was a student at William Penn Senior High School, which is across from Penn Park. All York City School District students had been released at noon on Dec. 6, according to the district.
The high school has released the following statement about Keys death:
“It is with deep sadness that the Bearcat family announces the tragic loss of one of our cherished William Penn High School students. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends affected by this heartbreaking event."
The school has also shifted to remote learning days for Thursday and Friday due to the fight and fatal stabbing.
